Truman
Towers is a unique senior housing development located in
the renovated historic Osceola Public School building. The
school was constructed in 1914-1915 from brick and cut-stone
and designed by Springfield architect J.L. Heckenlively.
It was designated for inclusion on the National Register
of Historical Places on November 13, 1998. The redevelopment
plan included converting existing classrooms into 25 apartments.
A large community room, which is available to the seniors
for their own functions as well as to the community on a
mutually convenient basis, was created in the gymnasium
portion of the building and a lounge on the second floor.
The development has a total of 17 one-bedroom units ($260
per month) and 8 two-bedroom units ($310 per month). Included within the rent for
each unit is water, sewer, and trash. Each unit also includes
central heating and air conditioning, microwave, dishwasher,
garbage disposal, range/oven, refrigerator, washer and dryer
units, carpeting and mini-blinds. Parking for vehicles is
provided on-site including covered parking. The support
and sponsorship of West Central Missouri Community Action
Agency will enhance this project by providing many of the
same services they offer in other areas of the state. These
services will by far increase the quality of life for the
residents that will be living in Truman Towers.
